This policy document covers the nature and scope of the NERC EDS’s acquisition of data for long-term curation and dissemination, and the decision-making process for acceptance. NERC EDS Data Preservation and Withdrawal Policy (PDF, 119 KB)
This policy covers the digital data resources, and associated metadata, accepted and held within the NERC EDS. The aim of this policy is to ensure the longevity of the digital data held by the EDS in a sustainable way by addressing the factors which risk making them unusable and inaccessible. It demonstrates awareness of the need to comply with relevant standards to ensure the requirements of its designated user community and other stakeholders are fulfilled. It also establishes the principles by which data may be removed from direct public access and/or disposed of.

Working with DataCite and the British Library, the NERC EDS implements the use of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), a type of Persistent Identifier (PID). This policy outlines how the EDS allocate DOIs, authorship requirements and what happens when data or metadata are subsequently modified.
